Questions No. 34 and 35

Mike:How about getting Timmy a violin for his birthday?

Pam:Oh, do you want him to play in an orchestra?

Mike:I hope he does, eventually.

Pam:Hmm... how about a saxophone? It’s more fun than the violin.

Mike:But I want to get him a violin while he’s still young.

Pam:Of course age is important for both instruments. Still, I was hoping that Timmy could play jazz someday. But with the violin, he’s stuck with classical music.

Mike:What’s wrong with classical music?

Pam:Nothing. But what’s better about jazz is that you can change the melody as you play. There’s more freedom. It’s more fun.

Mike:More freedom is all very good, but you need to learn to read music first. And classical music is the best for that.

Pam:Well, Timmy can learn to read music while playing jazz on the saxophone.

Mike:Couldn’t he learn the saxophone later if he wants?

Pam:Why don’t we let him choose? What’s important is that he enjoy it.

Questions No. 36 and 37

Joe:Wow, Saki. Look at all your books.

Saki:Yeah, maybe too many, Joe. I bet you read a lot.

Joe:Yeah, but I only read ebooks. They’re more portable.

Saki:Portable?

Joe:Well, for example, on long trips, you don’t have to carry a bunch of books with you, right, Keith?

Keith:That’s right, Joe. And not only that, but ebooks are usually a lot cheaper than paper books.

Saki:Hmm... ebooks do sound appealing, but... what do you think, Beth? Do you read ebooks?

Beth:No. I like looking at the books I collect on my shelf.

Keith:Yeah, Saki’s bookcase does look pretty cool. Those books must’ve cost a lot, though. I save money by buying ebooks.

Beth:That’s so economical, Keith.

Joe:So, how many books do you actually have, Saki?

Saki:Too many. Storage is an issue for me.

Joe:Not for me. I’ve got thousands in my tablet, and it’s still not full.

Keith:I know, Joe. And they probably didn’t cost very much, right?

Joe:No, they didn’t.

Saki:Even with my storage problem, I still prefer paper books because of the way they feel.

Beth:Me, too. Besides, they’re easier to study with.

Keith:In what way, Beth?

Beth:I feel like I remember more with paper books.

Joe:And I remember that we have a test tomorrow. I’d better charge up my tablet.
